From ოხორი (oxori, “house”) + ოსური (osuri, “daughter”), literally “daughter of house”. For other compound nouns made with ოხორი (oxori), declaring "kinship and social status": compare ოხორჯა (oxorca), ოხრასქირი (oxraskiri) and ოხოჭკურა (oxoç̌ǩura).
