უშნო

Georgian

Etymology

Possibly from უ- (u-) + შნო (šno) or შნო (šno) + უ- -ო (u- -o).

Shanidze, on the other hand, derives it directly from the old root -შუენ- (compare შვენება (šveneba)) with circumfix უ- -ო (u- -o): უ-შნ-ო < *უ-შვნ-ო < *უ-შუენ-ო. Compare the antonym მშვენიერი (mšvenieri).

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /uʃno/
  • Hyphenation: უშ‧ნო

Adjective

უშნო • (ušno) (comparative უფრო უშნო, superlative ყველაზე უშნო)

  1. ugly
