ጌሰም
Ge'ez
Alternative forms
- ጌሠም (geśäm)
Etymology
Believed akin to Arabic ج ه م (j-h-m). Also found in Sabaean 𐩴𐩠𐩣𐩺 (ghmy, “last part of night before dawn”), 𐩴𐩠𐩣 (ghm, “to go just before dawn”). Hans Bauer instead pairs ጌሰ (gesä, “to go in the morning”) with Arabic جَاشَ (jāša), جَيْش (jayš), like قَامَ (qāma) relates to قَوْم (qawm).
