Possibly of Iranian origin, from Proto-Iranian *yaz- (to sacrifice), from *Hyájati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hyáȷ́ati (to sacrifice, worship).[1] Or, related to *hižwáH (language, tongue, people).[2] More at Iazyges.
