Possibly a corruption of daku koto, from 抱く (daku, to hug, to carry or hold in one's arms) + (koto, fact, action, instance),[1][2][3] or of just 抱く (daku, to hug, to hold in one's arms).[5]

First appears in texts from the 1830s.[1]
