Etymology
The name comes from the original definition of the date of the festival: it used to be held on the 巳 (sì) day(a day of the ancient ten-day cycle, similar to the modern week) in the 上旬 (shàngxún, “first ten days of a month”) of the third lunar month. Since the Han dynasty, the date was shifted to the third day of the third lunar month.
