Etymology
The New Book of Tang mentions a city called 迦師城 in the Kingdom of Shule, during the reign of Pei Amozhi (裴阿摩支) in the Zhenguan era of the Tang dynasty.
The current county was established in 1902 with 伽師 as its name.
