Compound of 待ち (machi, the 連用形(れんようけい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of () (matsu, to wait)) + 伏せ (fuse, the 連用形(れんようけい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of ()せる (fuseru, to bend down)). The fuse changes to buse as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
