Etymology
By surface analysis, 己 (unu, “oneself”) + 惚れ (bore, “infatuation, falling in love”, ren'yōkei of 惚れる (horeru)), literally “falling in love with oneself”. Possibly simply the ren'yōkei of 自惚れる (unuboreru).
