Etymology

From either Malay Suluk (“Sulu”) or directly from Tausug Sulug, an older form of Sūg (“Sulu”), possibly from Tausug sulug, an older form of sūg (“current”), loaned via Hokkien.[1][2] Compare Maranao Solog, Malay Suluk.
