깁 (gip, “silk”) + 옷 (ot, “clothing”). The synonymous 비단옷 (bidanot) appears to be in much more common use.
Pronunciation

- Phonetic hangul: [기(ː)볻]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
