First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean ᄂᆞ니〮다〮 (Yale: nòní-tá), from ᄂᆞᆯ— (Yale: nòl-, “to fly”) + 니다〮 (Yale: nì-tá, “to go”).
