First attested in the Hanbul jajeon (韓佛字典 / 한불자전), 1880, as Early Modern Korean 새악씨 (Yale: sayakssi). Also attested in the Hanbul jajeon (韓佛字典 / 한불자전), 1880, as Early Modern Korean 새아기씨 (Yale: sayakissi).

Most likely equivalent to (sae, new) + 아가씨 (agassi, young lady).
