어치

Korean

Etymology

Possibly related to 언치 (eonchi, “saddle blanket”), from Middle Korean 어치 (Yale: echi, “saddle blanket”). The Eurasian jay's wing is brown in its upper parts but more vividly colored towards the edges, which is said to be reminiscent of a brown saddle blanket draped over a beast of burden.
