Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yaruk (“light”), equivalent to 𐰖𐰺𐰆 (yaru-, “to shine”) +‎ 𐰸 (-uq). Cognate with Uzbek yorugʻ, Kazakh жарық (jaryq), Yakut сырдык (sırdık).
