Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀛𑀺𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀇 (jhijjaï), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *gẓʰiyáti (“to perish, decay”) (compare Sanskrit क्षीयते (kṣīyate)) from Proto-Indo-European *dʰgʷʰiyéti.
