Etymology

Blend of Christmas + Hannukah, popularized by the US television series The O.C. in the 2000s. A similar formation can be found in German Weihnukka (from Weihnachten (Christmas)), and compare also Dutch Chanoeklaas, a merger of Hanukkah and the Dutch winter holiday of Sinterklaas which similarly involvies gift-giving.
