Italian
Etymology
Readaptation of a substrate loan from Sicilian cuccumeli:
- from an unattested Medieval Greek *kokkýmēlion, ultimately from κοκκύμηλον (kokkúmēlon, “plum”), from κόκκῠξ (kókkux, “cuckoo”) + μῆλον (mêlon, “apple, any fruit from a tree”);
- alternatively from κόκκος (kókkos, “grain, seed, kernel”) + μῆλον (mêlon, “apple, any fruit from a tree”) (cfr. Κώκαλος (Kṓkalos) for the first element).
Possibly cognate with Greek Κουκουμέλης (Koukoumélis).

- Rhymes: -iʎʎo
- Hyphenation: Coc‧ci‧mì‧glio
