Etymology
First attested as Doddingebuyrt in the 17th century. Calque of West Frisian Deddingabuorren, a compound of Deddinga (“a surname”) and the plural form of buer (“house, cottage”). The second element was gradually replaced by buurt (“hamlet”). Compare Dedgum.
