Etymology
From Middle High German kranz, from Old High German kranz, of uncertain origin, but probably related to the root of Kringel (“loop, curl”).
An exclusively High German word (compare e.g. Lua error in Module:utilities at line 142: attempt to perform arithmetic on local 'h' (a nil value), Vilamovian kraonc). From Middle High German are borrowed Dutch krans, Danish krans, and other Scandinavian forms.
