Limmel
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as limmail in 1230-1236. Perhaps a compound of Old Dutch *lin (“flexible”) and male (“sack, area with low elevation, swampy land”). Unlikely to be derived from a compound of Proto-Germanic *hliþa- (“slope, incline”) and *maþla (“moot, gathering place”). Formerly an independent village.
