  1. A region of Asia, bordering the west coast of the northern Pacific. A region of the world composed of the Koreas, mainland Japan archipelago, northern China. Sometimes including variously Mongolia, Outer Manchuria, Sakhalin, the Kurils, Kamchatka, the whole of the Russian Far East, the whole of the People's Republic of China, the whole of Japan.
