"Phan Rang": From Eastern Cham Pandarang, from Old Cham Panduranga (paṅrauṅ/panrāṅ), from Sanskrit पाण्डुरङ्ग (pāṇḍuraṅga, another epithet for the Hindu god Vithoba).
"Tháp Chàm": tháp +‎ Chàm, literally "Cham Tower", named after the Po Klong Garai Temple in the northern part of the city.
