From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *r/g-na (ear). Cognate with Burmese နား (na:, ear), Tibetan རྣ་བ (rna ba, ear), Old Chinese (OC *njɯʔ), Nuosu (hnap, ear) and Jingpho na. Compare Zaiwa no and Hpon ă .
