Unknown; presumably from Proto-Germanic *frōbrō, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *proH-bʰr-eh₂, from *proH- (toward) + *bʰer- (to bear, carry) + *-eh₂, or perhaps from *pro- (toward) + *op- (to work, ability) + *-rós.[1]
