Unknown; presumably from Proto-Germanic *frōbrō, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *proH-bʰr-eh₂, from *proH- (“toward”) + *bʰer- (“to bear, carry”) + *-eh₂, or perhaps from *pro- (“toward”) + *op- (“to work, ability”) + *-rós.[1]
