Séissel
Luxembourgish
Alternative forms
- Séissen (archaic)
Etymology
Ultimately from Proto-West Germanic *sagisnu. The archaic variant above strongly suggests that the form continues the original Old High German segisna. Alternatively it could also be from the more common metathesis segansa (whence German Sense), in which case it would exhibit sporadic pre-fricative nasal loss (as in eis).
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): [ˈzəɪ̯səl]
