Etymology
From French. The Louis mentioned in the name may be Louis Marquis (one of the first colonists of the region), Louis-Antoine Proulx (vicar of Rivière-du-Loup), or Louis-Nicolas Bernier (an abbot). Ha! Ha! (see ha-ha (“obstacle which suddenly interrupts a path”)) is said by the Commission de toponymie to refer to nearby Lake Témiscouata.
