Second part from Old Norse nefnd (“denomination, name, tribunal”), derived from Old Norse nefna (“mention”), from Proto-Germanic *namnijaną (“to name, call”), from *namô + *-janą, first part from Proto-Indo-European *h₁nómn̥.
