From Ancient Greek ἄκος (ákos, remedy) + -logy. The first element could be from Proto-Indo-European *Hieh₂ḱ-. Or, less likely, related to Old Irish ícc (healing, cure).[1] Or, of Semitic/Egyptian origin.[2]
