Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish آیاقلو (ayaqlu), آیاقلی (ayaqlı, “possessed of a foot, having legs, legged, footed, movable”), from earlier *aδaqlïɣ, from Proto-Turkic *adak-lïg (“having legs”). Equivalent to ayak (“paw, foot”) + -lı. Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰑𐰴𐰞𐰍 (d¹ql¹ǧ /adaqlïɣ/, “footed”), Old Uyghur ʾʾdʾqlyγ (adaqlïɣ, “legged”), Karakhanid اَذَقْلِغْ (aδaqlïɣ, “possesing legs”).
