Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *bardzmā, derived from *bardzā > bardhë (white), with a typical semantic pattern for the nomination of bark and bast. Compare Proto-Slavic *lyko (bast) from Proto-Indo-European *lewk- (light, shine).[1]
