     Hitawiri^{[sic – meaning bitawiri]} is een populaire groente in Suriname: de bladeren worden gewassen, fijngesneden en kort in olie gebakken met bijvoorbeeld ui en garnalen. (...) Er wordt wel eens gesuggereerd dat bitawiri een Afrikaanse groente is, die met de slavenschepen Suriname is binnengekomen, maar dat is niet het geval.
