- 1887, Franz Winckel, “Lesions of the Vagina and their Results, Vaginal Cicatrices”, in Joseph H. Williamson, transl., Diseases of Women: A Handbook for Physicians and Students, Philadelphia: P. Blakiston, Son & Co., page 213:
- The improvement in the symptoms after colpeurysis proves their connection with the vaginal cicatrices, and renders it probable that the pain is the result of tension or pressure caused by them, or of the remains of inflammatory swelling in the region of the sacro-ischiatic plexus.
