couple-close
English
WOTD – 12 May 2010
Noun
couple-close (plural couple-closes)
- (heraldry) A diminutive of the chevron, always borne in closely placed pairs.
Usage notes
Because couple-closes always appear in pairs, the plural form is more often met with than the singular. The similar chevronel may appear in groups of three or more, and is generally considered to be drawn wider than the couple-close.
