cucujoid (plural cucujoids)

1. Any beetle of the superfamily Cucujoidea.

     This line gave rise to the bostrichoids, in which all the spiracles in the adult remained functional, and the cucujoids, in which the spiracle on the adult eighth abdominal segment became nonfunctional.

     The cucujoid superfamily is a large and diverse assemblage of over 30 families, including a host of rarities as well as a few very well-known groups (particularly ladybird and sap beetles, Coccinellidae and Nitidulidae, respectively).
