dërgoj

Albanian

Etymology

Unclear. Explained as a borrowing from a Vulgar Latin verb derived from Latin dīrigō (to lay straight, direct, distribute) through an earlier Proto-Albanian *dər(ə)goɲ;[1] an alternative source could be dialectal djerg (to bring down, drop, send). Orel suggests a borrowing from Latin dēlēgō (to send) with an irregular change of the liquid consonant.[2]
