Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *dargei-, from Proto-Indo-European *derHgʰ-. Cognate to Lithuanian dìrgti (“to feel faint, faint”), Proto-Slavic *dьrgati (“to pluck, to pull”), and Proto-Germanic *targijaną (“to tear”). Present dergjem with umlaut of the root vowel, as usual in the Albanian non-active paradigm.[1]
