Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *dargei-, from Proto-Indo-European *derHgʰ-. Cognate to Lithuanian dìrgti (to feel faint, faint), Proto-Slavic *dьrgati (to pluck, to pull), and Proto-Germanic *targijaną (to tear). Present dergjem with umlaut of the root vowel, as usual in the Albanian non-active paradigm.[1]
