From Latin e (out) + venter (belly) + -ation.

Noun

eventration (plural eventrations)

  1. (medicine) A tumour containing a large portion of the abdominal viscera, caused by relaxation of the walls of the abdomen.
  2. (medicine) A large wound in the abdomen, through which the greater part of the intestines protrude.
  3. The act of disembowelling.
