għammieq
Maltese
Etymology
Going by the spelling, from an underlying Arabic *عَمّاق (*ʕammāq), which would seem to be an intensive form of عَمِيق (ʕamīq, “deep”). However, given the vocalic mergers involving għ and q in Maltese, the root would have been liable to irregular developments. Compare għamieq (“depth”) for more.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /amˈmɪːʔ/
- IPA(key): /aˤːmˈmɪːʔ/ (archaic)
