From Proto-Albanian *supna, from Proto-Indo-European *súpnos (compare Latin somnus, Lithuanian sãpnas, Ancient Greek ὕπνος (húpnos), Proto-Slavic *sъnъ).[1] Also reconstructed as Proto-Albanian *źupnʉh. modërn -ë descends from Proto-Indo-European *-ós as Proto-Albanian *-ʉh[2]
