From a South Slavic language, especially eastern dialects, compare Old Church Slavonic граждь (graždĭ, manger), Bulgarian гражд (gražd, barn); ultimately from Proto-Slavic *gorďь (fence), related to Proto-Slavic *gordъ (fortification, town).[1][2][3]
