Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish حال بو كه (ḥal bu ki),[1][2] from حال (ḥal) + بو (bu) + كه (ki),[3] equivalent to hâl (state, situation, circumstance) + bu (this) + ki (that), literally the state is (this) that. Cognates with Azerbaijani halbuki, Uyghur ھالبۇكى (halbuki), Uzbek holbuki.
