From Ottoman Turkish حاویه (havya, “soldering iron”), from older هاويه (hâviye, “abyss, hell, inferno”), from Arabic هَاوِيَة (hāwiya, “pit, abyss, hell”), from هَوَاء (hawāʔ, “air, void”).
