  1. (pathology) The irregular production (both overproduction and underproduction) of gastric juices in any part of the digestive tract.
    • 1905, Hobart Amory Hare, Progressive Medicine:
      Cases in which there was a decided nervous element, especially instances of the so-called heterochylia, were rejected, since one can never be sure that the achylia in such cases is constant and does not alternate with a gastric secretion that approaches normal.

      Hyperacidity was noted in all, except for one case of hypoacidity and for another of heterochylia.
