From the same Proto-Algic root as Yurok ʔnechkah, 'ne-chkah (“my foot”) and Wiyot čkač (“leg”). Literally his leg. The root /hikat/ is a bound or dependent lemma, only appearing in compounds with affixes. /w/ metathesizes with root-initial /h/.
