Etymology

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *irśtwā́ˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ŕ̥tḱos. Priorly thought to be akin to šìrtva by metathesis, from šìrtas, from šérti, ultimately uncertain.[1]
