From Proto-Baltic, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *jaudīˀtei, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *Hyéwdʰh₁eti (to move forward), or a root *Hyewdʰ-, derived from *h₂yew-. Compare Sanskrit युध्यते (yúdhyate, to battle).
