Etymology
Unadapted borrowing from Spanish la garantía soy yo (“take my word”, literally “I am the guarantee/warranty”).
Popularised by a SEMP Toshiba advertisement from the 90s in which a Japanese-Paraguayan salesman uses the phrase to promote his VHS player. Paraguay was notorious as a port of entry for pirated goods in Brazil.
