nəinki 'than' is mostly used when comparing clauses, not individual NP's. Comparing NP's is done by putting the compared phrase in ablative. If nəinki is used, the ablative is omitted. When possessive pronouns of the type yours, mine are used, ablative constructions are preferred. Another difference is that daha (“more”) is optional in ablative constructions but obligatory in constructions with nəinki.

• Üzr istəmək daha yaxşıdır, nəyinki icazə istəmək. ― Asking for forgiveness is better than asking for permission.
• Üzr istəmək icazə istəməkdən [daha] yaxşıdır. ― Asking for forgiveness is better than asking for permission.
