Compound of padat (packed) + karya (work), compare to Japanese 労働集約(ろうしゅうやく) (rōshūyaku, labor-intensive, literally labour + consolidate, aggregate) and Chinese 勞動密集劳动密集 (láodòng mìjí, “labor-intensive”, literally “labor-dense”).
